A few of my own favorite charms

While working on the Water.org campaign for The Mission List  fellow bloggers Laura Rossi, Carla Molina and I realized we all lived in the same area.  We decided to get together and try to augment our social media fundraising efforts with an Alex & Ani Party With A Purpose.  Alex & Ani is a fabulous local company that we love to support not only for their amazing jewelry line, but their positive energy philosophy as well.  An entire division of the company is devoted to Charity By Design which supports various charities through the sales of specifically designed charm bangles for each group.

Their Parties With A Purpose are another way the company gives back.  Parties are hosted in the stores and provide a unique shopping experience that enables the Charity By Design department of Alex and Ani to raise funds and awareness for various charities.  Events are generally two hours long (6-8 p.m. or 7-9 p.m.), and the company donates 15% of event sales to the designated charity.  Co-branded evites are created by Alex and Ani for event promotion, and lite bites and positive energy punch are provided by the store.

 

 

We are thrilled with the results of our Party With A Purpose held at the Alex & Ani Chapel View Store at the company’s headquarters.  In just two hours of shopping and fun we were able raise over $500.00 to be donated directly to Water.org.

Every $25.00 donated provides clean water for life to someone.  That means we just provided 22 people clean water for life!

We are so grateful to all of those who turned out to support Water.org at our Party With A Purpose, and to those of you who have donated  on-line or helped to spread the word by re-tweeting and re-posting our social media efforts.  We have three days left to reach our goal of bringing 100 people clean water for life, and we are so close to being able to do just that.  If you missed our Party With A Purpose but would still like to help us reach that goal, you can still do so on The Mission List fundraising page.

This giveaway is fabulous because not only do you get a beautiful bracelet to wear, you are also choosing a charity that 20% of the proceeds will go to support. Alex and Ani opened in 2004 by designer Carolyn Rafaelian of Rhode Island. She named the company after her first two daughters, and she created a line of jewelry meant to empower and express one’s inner beauty. The Alex & Ani line includes bracelets, necklaces and rings. The charms are imbued with meaning, and people buy them based on what the bracelet symbolizes. Some popular ones are: The Path of Life, the Four Leaf Clover, and the Star of Venus.
A special line that Rafaelian created is called Charity By Design. In this line she creates single charm bracelets that help to raise money for a certain cause, and designs charms that in some way represent this cause. For this giveaway you will choose one from this line. Your choices are the following:
Piece of the Puzzle:
20% of all sales, with a minimum donation of $10,000, from the Piece of
the Puzzle Charm will go directly to the National Autism Association
that educates and empowers families within the autism community.
Living Water:
20% of all sales, with a minimum donation of $5,000, will go directly to
Living Water International to support their work of demonstrating
divine love by helping communities acquire desperately needed clean
water.
Cupcake:
20% of all sales, with a minimum donation of $10,000, will go directly
to the Nancy Davis Foundation that is dedicated to the treatment and
ultimate cure of Multiple Sclerosis.   
Ribbon of Strength: 
20% of sales from the Ribbon of Strength Bangle will support the Gloria
Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, a Rhode Island non-profit that
works to spread awareness, education, resources, and hope in the fight
against breast cancer. 
Lotus Blossom: 
20% off all sales from the Lotus Blossom Expandable Wire Bangle, with a
minimum of $5,000, will go directly to Women & Infants Hospital, one
of the nation’s leading specialty hospitals for women
and newborns. 
The Elephant:
20% of all sales from The Elephant Charm, with a minimum donation of
$5,000, will go directly to Friends of Jaclyn, an organization in which
athletic programs adopt children with pediatric brain tumors to provide
them with love, support and lasting friendships.  
Paw Prints:
20% of sales will go directly to the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals
that focuses on supporting, healing, and finding caring homes for dogs
and cats.
 
Shark Finn:
20% of all sales, with a minimum donation of $5,000, will go directly to
Finnz Fundz, an organization that seeks to provide direct assistance to
children and families coping with long-term hospitalization in the
fight against Cystic Fibrosis. 
Tree Hugger: 
20% of all sales, with a minimum donation of $5,000, will go directly to
the African Rainforest Conservancy that works to restore African
rainforests through grassroots conservation and community development. 
Phoenix:

20% of all sales, with a minimum donation of $10,000, will go to support
the work of Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island whose mission is to
care for people who are living with a serious illness when time matters
most.

 

The winner can choose which bracelet and charity they would like to support. All bracelets come in either Russian Silver or Russian Gold. You know those people who deck their homes for Christmas with neon lights, bells and whistles, inside and out? They may wear red and green all month, and have little jingle bells hanging from their ears. They lOVE that holiday with all their being. Well, that is how I feel about Valentines Day, I do wear a lot of red in February, but it’s also the American Heart Association campaign to wear red for heart health in February, so I can get away with it.  I also decorate my house a bit, but really how far can you go with the hearts and the red without it taking on the look of a brothel? My complete ardor for Valentines Day may have a tiny bit to do with the fact that it happens to fall on my birthday, but how can you not love a holiday that is all about love?! Because Valentines Day makes me so happy, I truly enjoy spreading the love with gifts and cards for my kids, my friends, and of course the love of my life, my Husband. Here are a few fabulous finds this year for the ones you cherish.

 

Vosges Chocolates:  I blame this little obsession on my friend Lisa who discovered Vosges when she lived inLincoln Park in Chicago way back as Vosges opened their first boutique in that area. Their packaging is exquisite, so it always makes a great gift to send, and the the contents are sublime!  Their Chocolate  flavors are curated from around the world, like the spicy dark chocolate Aztec collection (my favorite), or the Naga bar with flavors from India like curry and coconut.  Sampling the exotic flavors is an adventure in every bite!

 

 

The Best Friends Bangle set by Alex & Ani.  They are an amazing Jewelry company that serves as a great example by giving back to society. How much do you love this bracelet set!?  Their bangles have become hugely popular, and just in time for Valentine’s Day they launched the Best Friends bangle set.  This is a beautiful way to share the sentiment that you care, and 20% of the proceeds from this set goes to The American heart Association to help save lives.  So you are really giving twice with this gift!
